Field Trips and Career Exploration
Bridge Academy students and staff participated in a Ropes Course hosted by the YMCA at Camp Gulch in La Honda, CA on September 10, 2024. The focus was to deepen our In Lak'ech practice and exemplify our graduate profile characteristics of being communicators, collaborators and navigators. Students did this through working in groups to navigate through the various challenges together. It was a beautiful day of being in community and reinforcing the idea that we are stronger together and have a responsibility to help everyone thrive.
September 2024 College of San Mateo Field Trip
Bridge Academy students attended the College of San Mateo’s Back to School Bash on September 9, 2024. The event featured music, food, giveaways and activities.

May 2024 Field Trip with Royal Ambulance
hank you to Oscar and Samuel, bilingual Royal Ambulance EMTs who took time out of their day to meet with our Bridge students for a career talk. Oscar and Samuel spoke to the students about their paths to becoming EMTs and what it's like to be an EMT. Students had an opportunity to see the inside of the ambulance and learn about the equipment. We are incredibly thankful for visits like this where our students get a chance to think about what their life after high school might be like!
January 2024: District Facilities Manager Discusses Construction Management with Bridge Students
On January 25, 2024, the SMUHSD Facilities team collaborated with Bridge Program Principal Dr. Samia Shoman on a facilities presentation and tour of a District construction site with 20+ Bridge students. Led by Capital Facilities Fiscal Manager Jose Quintana, the presentation - done in Spanish - provided a comprehensive overview of construction management and fiscal accounting practices. Bridge serves students who are new to the country and its academic program is built around their language development.
The half-day presentation covered a range of disciplines related to project management, including project design and fiscal analysis. Jose and Facilities Specialist Jasmine Andrade had the opportunity to discuss ongoing projects in design, construction, and the closing out process. They also talked about digital blueprints and software relevant to managing all components of a construction project.
Bridge students asked thoughtful questions and engaged in discussions about the project, trades, accounting, schedules, and management practices.
The presentation ended with a tour of the San Mateo High School gymnasium construction site, where students saw first hand the different trades and roles that are involved. Students met Greystone Project Managers Royce Rippere and Mikael Estrada, who oversee the construction project.
